Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

  • There is no right time to hire a birth doula. There is only the right time for YOU to hire your doula.

I have started working with clients at 6 weeks, at 38 weeks and almost every week in between! Each client has a reason for starting the process when they do! Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

o Will I feel better having a signed contract and the security of being on a birth doula’s calendar?

o Is it financially helpful to spread out my doula’s fee over several months?

o What type of support do I envision? Do I primarily want labor support or do I want to have someone to provide information and emotional support throughout my pregnancy?

o Do I prefer to wait until the risk of miscarriage is lower or would I appreciate the support of a birth doula in the event something unexpected happens during my pregnancy?

o At what point will I feel ready/have time to focus on interviewing and choosing my doula?

  • I have hands-on training to support hospital, home, and birth center births. Most of my experience has been at hospitals and birth centers. I am legally unable to attend medically unassisted births.

  • I will be available to support you as soon as our contract is signed! I aim to answer all questions using evidence-based research and without bias. Anecdotal experience often comes up as it pertains to the local Denver birth community and our conversations will likely help you compile a list of questions for your provider. There are no questions or worries that are off-limits! I will be there for you as a sounding board. If I don’t have an immediate answer, I will work with you to find it. As a former care coordinator, I love sharing resources and referrals and collaborating with other members of your birth team!

  • Your decisions are your decisions! You know your values, body, and instincts better than anyone. It is important to me that you understand your options and rights, have ample time to make decisions, and receive informed consent to make the best decisions for you, your partner, and baby.

  • I typically accept two clients with expected due dates in the same month. A backup doula is always on-call in case of any illness or emergency. My current availability can be found at DoulaMatch.
